Faqs

If you are infected with Covid-19, your nasal secretions will contain the virus. To perform this test, you’ll take a nasal swab. This test will indicate whether or not your nasal secretions contain particles of the virus in it. If you want to watch exactly how this test is performed, watch this video.

Yes, this test can detect Covid-19 variants. Accuracy hasn’t been determined for all variants, but it’s reflective of the prevalent variants at the time of the test. Performance at the time of testing may vary depending on the variants circulating and their prevalence, which change over time.

This test detects whether or not you have antigens of Covid-19. This means the test picks up on the proteins present in the virus. However, the antigen test is not as sensitive as a molecular test (which detects genetic material from the virus). That means, with our antigen test, a positive test is highly accurate, while a negative test doesn’t necessarily rule out infection.

The last type of test is the antibody test. When you’re infected with the virus, your body will produce antibodies to help you fight off the infection. The antibody test is simply detecting your immune response to a previous infection, whereas the antigen and molecular tests detect current infections.

While the FDA has not approved this Covid-19 test, it is authorized by the FDA under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA). This means there are no adequate, approved, available alternatives. The EUA for this test is supported by the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS) justifying the emergency use of Covid-19 tests.

This EUA will remain in effect until it is terminated or authorization is revoked by the FDA, which would mean you would no longer be able to take the test.

There are no FDA-approved alternative Covid-19 tests. However, scope out your options by viewing other tests that the FDA has authorized using a EUA.

Individuals ages 15 and above can administer the tests to themselves, whereas adults should administer tests for children ages 2 to 14.

Serial testing is when a single person is tested for COVID-19 more than once.

Because antigen tests are less sensitive than other COVID-19 tests and false results may occur, repeated testing is more reliable than a single test. Serial testing (i.e., testing everyday or every other day) is more likely to detect COVID-19, especially when you do not have any symptoms. By repeating testing, it’s possible to identify cases of COVID-19 more quickly and reduce the spread of infection.

Additional testing with a molecular COVID-19 test may be necessary, depending on your individual risk factors and test results. Work with your healthcare provider to help you understand the next steps you should take.

Testing for asymptomatic individuals should be performed at least twice over 3 days, with at least 24 hours and no more than 48 hours between tests. You may need to purchase additional tests to perform this serial (repeat) testing.

If you have symptoms and you’re within the first 7 days of onset, you can use a single test. If you want to perform two tests to reduce the chances of false negatives, you’re welcome to.

If you do not have Covid-19 symptoms or have been having symptoms for more than 7 days, you will need to perform 2 tests over 2 to 3 days with at least 24 hours and no more than 48 hours between tests.

No. Currently, this test cannot be accepted as proof of a negative Covid-19 test for travel.

Yes. If you do not have Covid-19 symptoms, perform 2 tests over 2 or 3 days with at least 24 hours and no more than 48 hours between tests.
